Are there any precautions for riding a bicycle in Kyoto City?

Some areas in Kyoto City have heavy traffic and many pedestrians, so please pay close attention to your surroundings while riding. As a general rule, bicycles should travel on the left side of the roadway. Please follow traffic rules and use your bicycle safely. When riding on a sidewalk, give priority to pedestrians and get off your bicycle when necessary.
